mike falzano

band coach for "steel rose"

What is your favorite part of coaching at ROC Star Academy?

Watching the group come together, bond, collaborate, and then execute on some of the biggest stages in Rochester!

Hometown: Rochester, NY

Your musical focus/instruments you play: Guitar & Bass

What is your musical background?
Guitar is my main instrument, however, I have had the pleasure of learning other instruments! I've been studying and playing guitar for 23 years. I studied jazz at Hochstein under Richard Delaney + Craig Synder. I have a bachelors degree in communications with a minor in music, where I studied piano. Lastly, I am the bassist in the local group "The Sideburns".

What are your musical influences/favorite bands?
Oh boy! So many. The biggest influences have been Motown, The Beatles, The Doobie Brothers, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, anything from the '80s!

What is your “deserted island” album?
I would say "Thriller" by Michael Jackson, produced by Quincy Jones!

What is your favorite venue or event that you’ve performed? I've enjoyed mostly all of them! They all bring a unique atmosphere where you have the opportunity to entertain patrons.

What’s the craziest thing that ever happened to you on-stage?
I might need another page to list them all...

What’s the best piece of musical advice you’ve received in your career thus far?
Best advice would be from my father, who is a musician and musical professor who taught "History of Rock 'n' Roll", Music Business, + songwriting courses. He always challenged me as a musician to think differently. With so many songs + musical acts out there (past + present), how do you take your niche and present a song/performance that is different + unique to the audience.
